Want to sizzle on the dance floor? We can light the fire.

If the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' has inspired you to learn Argentine Tango, you have found the right place. Our Tango Toolkit is a dance workshop for absolute beginners where you can learn the basics of dancing tango. Have you noticed how many of the celebrities on the BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing" say Argentine Tango is the reason they wanted to take part. This is your chance to start to learn this beautiful dance.

Tango teacher Steve Morrall and his wife and dance partner Debbie Morrall have run Tango UK for 11 years. They have taught Argentine Tango since 2000 and for the last 7 years, Tango has been their full-time job.

MORE

They invite you to a day of workshops designed for people with no previous experience who want to learn to dance tango the argentinian way. We have organised more than 40 tango workshops to much acclaim. Read customers comments about our teaching.

The Toolkit provides the fundamental technique for dancing Tango. The embrace, the five basic movements and the invitation/response that passes between the man and the woman to be able to dance using improvised collaboration.

At the end of a Toolkit you will have an understanding of what you need to do to dance. However, the amount of time and energy you commit to the process after this introduction will have a bearing on how soon you will be able to dance effortlessly together.

Many dancers who have started their tango experience at a Toolkit are now dancing Tango socially. The development time from your first steps to confident movement is comparable to most other complex sports - at the very least months of regular practice.

The one day course covers the same content as a 4 week beginners' evening course. By immersing yourself in the dance for a full day, this course is much more effective than learning one night a week. We have found that most people forget what they have learned the previous week in evening classes. In the past, Tango Toolkit dancers have come from all over the country and with our contacts, we can usually advise them where to continue to learn tango closer to home.

Steve and Debbie teach in a fun and absorbing way, using traditional and alternative tango music. Newcomers are introduced to sharing a tango embrace sensitively, understanding and playing with tango balance and axis, learning to communicate tango moves through intention, and shaping and using their body like a authentic tango dancer. At the end of the weekend tango course, students will be able to dance basic tango in a social gathering. TOP OF PAGE

As tango teachers, Steve and Debbie understand the challenges of learning to dance and strive to make each tango class as easy and enjoyable as possible - read about our techniques in the Tango Pink Papers. We make absolute beginners tango fun!

More about your hosts and teachers

For Steve and Debbie, tango is more than just teaching dance. It is an emotional journey where new dancers can discover ways to be creative, to communicate without words and to respond and adapt in a constantly changing environment. It is an affirmation of mind, body and spirit and the pleasure of intimate contact with another person.  Steve and Debbie teach internationally at tango workshops in Europe and the UK.

Read feedback about our teaching style:

"When I looked at the feedback on your website before booking the Toolkit I thought "well you would only put the best feedback up for people to read" but having attended a Toolkit, the feedback was absolutely spot-on. Thanks Steve.

"You are a great teacher - funny, witty, sensitive, use lovely visual images and have an ability to draw out what is hiding in the drama and emotions of the dance."
A DANCER FROM SUFFOLK

"Thank you so much for such a wonderful, exhilarating, educational, amusing, - at times frustrating - but thoroughly enjoyable weekend of tango. "
A DANCER AT BRAMSHAW

"You have a very good teaching technique - and I teach teachers for a living so I am a tough critic!"

"That was the best tango lesson I have ever had!" A DANCER FROM BRISTOL

"Steve, when teaching you make the dance like poetry; a profound movement integrating mind body and spirit and more importantly you teach the present 'ness' to hold all 3. Thank you."

I am a first time dancer with two left feet and have no idea what to expect from a one day tango workshop...
No problem! Here are some tips and advice to get the most out of this special day....

Steve and Debbie's 124 sqm studio at Bramshaw
is the perfect place to learn to dance tango. We only teach Argentine Tango - it is our passion and our livelihood.
Of course it takes two to tango
All of our workshops require you to come along with someone to learn to dance with.

The old saying 'it takes two to tango' is unavoidably true for us. So pin a notice in your office, take out a small ad, drop BIG hints, leave messages in your hubbies lunchbox, wear a "I'm learning tango T shirt' or just simply ask someone if they want to learn to dance tango the argentinian way - most people, men and women, have a secret aspiration to 'tango'.

Our workshops are designed for an equal number of leaders and followers to create the best learning environment for all participants. Turn up with someone to learn to dance with and we'll do the rest.

What to expect:

The day takes place in our dance studio at Bramshaw village hall on the edge of the New Forest, near Southampton in Hampshire, 10 minutes from junction 1 on the M27.

The hall has a cushioned dance floor, plenty of car parking, good kitchen and lots of local B&Bs.

Where to stay in the New Forest

A fun, engaging and informative day of tango tuition for absolute beginners, carefully paced with lots of breaks for refreshment and relaxing.

See full programme listing and times in the blue panel above right.

Please bring a packed lunch. There is a fully equipped kitchen. We will provide hot and cold drinks and biscuits for tea breaks.

Workshops
All workshops will be led by Steve and Debbie Morrall. We do not teach steps or sequences - concentrating more on component techniques and holistic principles of the dance. We have found this method encourages confidence, improvisation and creative expression and gets people dancing faster.

Clothing and Footwear and other tips
Wear loose comfortable clothing for the workshops. There are washroom facilities but no showers. Be kind to your feet and wear smooth soled shoes which slide easily on a wooden floor.

Tango brings you into close and personal contact with dance partners so, guys and girls, make yourself smell gorgeous. We supply mints but you may want to bring your own mouth fresheners as well.

Dance and Community
Creating a sense of community and sharing help breaks down the barriers of dancing intimately with another person. During the day, we encourage people to share not only their dance, but to circulate and make new friends.

After the toolkit...
There is a lot on offer. Your new found confidence in dance can be enjoyed at regular events in this area. If you are keen to further improve your tango skills, there are group lessons in Southampton, private lessons locally by arrangement and workshops with visiting teachers from around the world.  TOP OF PAGE
