"The
dancers body is simply the
luminous manifestation of their soul. This is the truly creative
dancer, natural but not imitative, speaking in movement out of self and
out of something greater than all selves"

The
Tangkademy Workshop weekend is born of a passion.
A passion
to dance Argentine Tango in an improvised and responsive way and a
passion
for teaching enthusiasts of this dance a freedom of movement based on
collaboration and a shared understanding of applying movement
technique.
Tangkademy is a
weekend workshop with four classes led by Steve Morrall. There are
two classes on Saturday and two on Sunday plus
milongas
each evening and a welcome milonga
on Friday evening from 8pm until midnight. Add together the milongas,
practice time and workshops, you'll find you can dance for more than 25
hours this weekend!
TYPICAL
PROGRAMME
The content of the Tangkademy weekend follows our
progressive curriculum for teaching Argentine tango in a close embrace
'salon' style.
To get the most out of this
weekend workshop, we
recommend that you have attended regular lessons for between
6
months and 18
|
months.
Without this experience you will feel out of your depth at this
workshop.
Steve
focusses on teaching the technique of five fundamental moves and the
communication skills needed required by both dancers to move
synchronously with each other and with the music.
Classes are
limited to 10 couples
which allows the teachers time to give each dancer individual attention. You do not need to book with a
partner, although we
will monitor bookings to maintain a balance of men and women.
During the workshops, Steve may occasionally split 'leaders'
and
'followers' into separate
groups to teach individual movement technique before bringing dancers
together in an embrace.
If you need some
specific one-to-one tuition to solve a
problem or clarify a move, private lessons are available with local and
visiting teachers at additional cost which varies depending on the
teacher(s). Please email for more details and availablility. EMAIL

The weekend
takes place in Tango UK's dance studio at the same time as Tango Tangk
workshops take place in the main hall. All dancers share the main hall
for practice time, eating and th evening milongas.
There is
plenty of parking, good kitchen facilities, clean toilet facilities but
no showers (yet!).
If you are travelling from outside the area, there are several local
B&Bs and hostelries to choose from, and some of our local
dancers have rooms to rent. B&Bs
We can provide a simple lunch with a choice of home-made soups
(suitable for all diets) and bread and cheese for a small fee.
Alternatively, there are two pubs with good bar food close by.
If
you are
passionate about your tango and want to take your skills to
the next level, we aim to
teach and inspire better musicality,
connection, style and technique. BOOK
If you are new to the Tango UK teaching method, there are more articles
describing the process and our aims in our commentary section. GO |

Our events receive much
acclaim from students
and teachers alike.
"I
just wanted to reiterate what I said yesterday about what a fantastic
time I had this weekend. I can't think of a single thing that could
have been better, the organisation was perfect, the efforts of Debbie
and Jan [in the kitchen - ed] superb, I can't think of a weekend when I
have eaten so well.
Siobhan and Michael were inspirational teachers and the group gathered
were amongst the nicest people you could ask to meet and was genuinely
surprised and amazed at how "the community" system worked so well.
I love Tango for
so many reasons, I love
the structure of the dance, the power and empowerment it gives the
leader and follower when it is done well, some of the music is so
emotive however on occasions I have felt a lack of confidence trying
certain moves for fear of them not working yet with the intensive
nature of the lessons, the insights of both yourself and Debbie as well
as Siobhan and Michael I found a new confidence in my own dance and a
new love for this emotive, sensual, passionate dance we call Argentine
Tango and now can't wait for my next opportunity to dance and improve
my dance further." (Received by
email from
John, a dancer from Southampton on Monday 25 January 2010)
When I came
back from La Rogaia, several people commented on the positive change to
my dancing. Yes I listen to the music, and the follower. I
can't
listen to El
Rey de Bosque
without thinking of your teaching. I even take fewer steps as you
advised. How good is a pause - what a revelation!
Look forward to seeing you and Debbie again in La Rogia. Maybe you will
even come and do some teaching in Edinburgh. (Received by
email from Mike, a dancer from Edinburgh on Saturday 4 December 2010)
