Tango
dancing is all about understanding and expressing the music
through movement. Deepen your understanding of this beautiful
music with guidance from a tango teacher who
is a life-long musician. The one day workshop draws on the
content
of Steve Morrall's
weekly
advanced musicality classes at Bramshaw which have received a lot of
positive feedback. READ
The one day workshop provides 3 hours of tuition (2 x 1.5 hour sessions
either side of lunch) with an optional milonga in
evening

Advanced musicality workshops are suitable for all levels of dancers
from 1 years
experience onwards. Steve works with basic dance movement in the
workshops - it is the musical interpretation that will challenge and
stimulate even the most experienced dancer. The workshops cost
£24 per person. You
can
book your place below and pay using your credit card via our secure
online payment partner. We will confirm your booking by email.
The musicality workshops are 90% movement based and 10% is delivered
using a more cerebral approach (Steve uses musical instruments, LCD
projector, archive footage and games to do this). The workshops include
individual technique for the man and the woman and collaborative
technique for dancers working together. At the heart of his teaching
are these fundamentals:
• The dance is all about improvised collaborative movement to
music;
• Tango music provides a clear structure which allows both
dancers
to communicate movement;
• Each movement is made from a choice of one of 5 fundamental
moves for each dancer;
• There is no lead and no follow - there is invitation and
response. The only 'leader' is the music;
• Both dancers can apply their own specific technique to each
of
the moves to express timing and dynamic variance.
The workshops carefully guide dancers through these fundamentals. Each
workshop works with one genre (tango, milonga or vals) from one of the
golden age orchestras.
